WE ARE RECRUITING FOR AN ASSISTANT MANAGER  

Hackney Essentials is currently recruiting for an Assistant Manager. This is a great opportunity to join a wonderful team at our beautiful shop. 

This is a position for someone with a background in and commitment to retail who ideally has specific knowledge about wine, craft beer and spirits, as well as fresh and artisan food, ceramics and homewares. 

You will be expected to support the Shop Manager in managing the other members of the talented and committed team, serving customers in the shop, taking care of fresh produce, stock control, organising deliveries and cleaning. You will be available for weekend work. 

You will also support the Shop Manager in running the day-to-day business, taking responsibility for senior duties wherever necessary. This is very much a hands-on, customer facing role with an expectation to lead by example and demonstrate competency across all aspects of the shop’s operations. 

High levels of knowledgeable, warm and welcoming customer service are essential. In addition, you will be interested in building relationships with small brands and local producers as well as having a creative input into growing all aspects of our business.  

 Key responsibilities cover:

  • Day to day management of the shop when on duty, setting up the store, merchandising product & displays and driving sales though knowledgeable customer service
  • Stock management, placing orders to ensure continuity of product, correct storage, stock taking and liaising with the producers
  • Managing and inspiring the team, scheduling, providing coaching, encouragement and assistance to develop their knowledge & skills 
  • Ensure rotas are accurate and meet the needs of the store and are provided to the team in advance 
  • Report accurate payroll information on time
  • Work closely with the management team and take part in business planning sessions, sharing knowledge and ideas for growth of the business

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar retail operation
  • Excellent knowledge of premium artisan food products and wines or homewares and the willingness to continue to expand your knowledge
  • Excellent customer service skills and can-do attitude
  • Well organised and clear thinking with an ability to prioritise and manage workload
  • Creative with a willingness to bring fresh ideas and thinking
  • Relaxed and friendly demeanour with a positive outlook
  • Numerate and literate with an excellent standard of spoken and written English language

Permanent, Full-time and part-time position available, salary from £12.50 per hour.
